Is Anybody Out There? (Media Part A) Courage/Fear

...I chose to add this video as an extra to my tapestry page, as when I listen to this song, I feel that these people that they are talking about in the song, "Adam" and "Mary," feel that they are scared to stand up and this fear creates an insecurity of the two of them. The two of them don't have someone to hold them up, someone's shoulder to cry on or a helping hand when they are in pain. This creates a self esteem issue which fear is a part of. They must be thinking "Why me?" or "Would people like me if I changed?" I feel that they are fearful of becoming something more, because they are abused of love and care. They have been let down and abandoned by everyone that has ever loved them, shunned by others that see them. They are in a dark room, with no light. They feel safest without interaction from people they do not need. Fear creates emotions such as these, make you want to block off the world so that you will not be hurt again...

Media Connection - Music - Courage

"Pan's Labyrinth"

                   - Guillermo del Toro

...This is a small video clip from the movie "Pan's Labyrinth" by Guillermo de Toro, it is a song from the movie that represents courage through the music composition. It gives the audience a sence of suspense and pathos; like something is going to happen to the little girl as this song plays, it starts out sounding adventurous by the end, which to me, creates a sense of courage in the song. By the end of the song, the music has gotten louder and more cheerful instead of depressing, which sounds almost triumphant. To me, it relates to the little girl's feelings and by the end of her journey, she is no longer afraid but had overcome her fear, which is why the song by the end sounds triumphant, as she has achieved her goals and concord her fears...

...The feeling in each of these are different, each to their own purpose and feeling behind the lyrics of the author as well as the composer. One, trying to strike a point within the listener that not every one is perfect, and those that aren't you have to look out for. These people, that are unsure and lonely, are the ones that are afraid to be who they want to be. The tune of this song, is more upbeat, but the lyrics contrast to the feeling of the song. While, in the other song, Pan's Labyrinth, the tune is slower, but gets faster at the end, almost like going from a fearful time, to a very courageous and strong time. Like they have concorded their fears, to achieve their goals...
