Quotation # 1 - Courage - Reflection
" We must build dikes of courage to hold back the flood of fear. "- Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dikes; ( Verb ) ; Provide (land) with a wall or embankment to prevent flooding.
" We must build embankment of courage to hold back the flood of fear. "
...This quote to me, if said in my own words, would be something along the lines of "Shielding ourselves with courage, protects us from the attacking of fear." In other words, if you stand around and do nothing to protect yourself of help yourself through fear, you cannot accept the help of courage without your own consent and taking the very first step towards courage instead of letting fear trample over you your entire life. Instead, use courage to your advantage to monopolize over your fears, one by one, until there is nothing left for you to fear. Courage will take the place of fear, building up your confidence in yourself as well as expanding opportunities that you can explore in the future.
Martin Luther King, Jr needed courage in order to lead the African American race from the shadows and into the light. He showed great courage, when it was white against black, Martin stood up for what he believed and changed peoples' lives forever. Imagine what would have happened if he hadn't stood up for his rights as an African American? He would have been living in fear of everyday life for the rest of his life. He is a very strong representation of where courage could lead you, if you choose to grasp on and never let go.
